Eating cannabis products is a whole different ball game from smoking them! And all edibles are not the same, either. Before you ingest your product, you need to know which one to buy. Visiting your local dispensary is probably your best bet since you can see various products in-person and talk to a budtender about your preferences. While there, follow these shopping tips.
Look for a product with the right amount of THC.
If you are new to edibles, you will want to go with a reasonably low dose of 20 to 40 mg of THC for your first time. You do not want to buy an edible that contains, for instance, 200 mg of THC. While you could carve off a piece of the product and eat it, doing so accurately is really tough, and you're going to be left with a tiny snack! Instead, buy a product that contains just your preferred dose in its entirety.
Opt for sativa for daytime use or indica for nighttime use.
Do you want the edible to make you feel really relaxed and sleepy, or excited and creative? Buy an indica strain for sleepy, nighttime use or a sativa strain for excitement in the daytime. There are so many different strains out there to try, each with slightly different nuances. You can experiment with many of them as time goes on, but for now, just make sure you make the right choice between indica and sativa.
Read the package for dosing instructions.
Some treats come in multiples. For instance, you might buy a chocolate bar that is subdivided into eight segments. Make sure you read the package to be clear whether the dose of THC being provided is in one segment or in the whole product. The package will also give you an estimate of how long the edible will take to "kick in." Most take about an hour, but some strains and really high-fat products might kick in a bit sooner. This just helps ensure you know what to expect.
Just buy one or two the first time.
Don't buy sixteen of a certain gummy bear or chocolate bar until you know you like it. You might decide the dose is a little too strong or that you'd prefer a different strain. If you're in the mood to shop, buy a few different items and sample each one rather than buying multiples of the same thing before you know that you like it.
